Clearwater For Youth to host inaugural 5k to benefit area kids, youth sports

register-nowCLEARWATER, Fla. – Clearwater For Youth, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to elevating youth sports and ensuring no child is turned away from sports due to financial concerns, is scheduled to host their inaugural 5k race, run or walk, on Nov. 12 at Coachman Park in Clearwater.

The CFY Sports Fan 5k, presented by Simpson Air, is scheduled to take place starting at 8 a.m. that Saturday. The race will start and finish at Coachman Park after runners go over the Clearwater Memorial Causeway and return to the park.

“We’re truly excited about this upcoming opportunity and we hope the surrounding community will support this cause by signing up to come race,” said Daniel Slaughter, chief of Clearwater Police Department and Chair of the Clearwater for Youth Race Committee.

The USATF certified event is timed using a chip and proceeds from the event will be used to support Clearwater for Youth scholarships and sports programs.

Pre-race, online registration is now open at Active.com with a cost of $30 for individuals and $250 for a group of 10.

Registration on the day of the race will cost $35 for individuals or $300 for a group of 10 at Coachman Park starting at 6:00 a.m.

The pre-race packet pick-up is scheduled to be held at Abe’s Place at 1250 South Missouri Avenue in Clearwater on Nov. 10-11, from 4-8 p.m. Day of race packet pick-up will take place alongside registration.

All race registrants will receive a tech t-shirt and finisher medal. Post-race activities will include vendor booths, a post-race meal, and overall and age group award prizes. People interested in participating can register by visiting the event’s registration page here. Last year, CFY provided more than $153,000 in the form of grants and scholarships. Participants are encouraged to show their Sports Fan 5k spirit by wearing their favorite professional, collage, high school or youth sports team shirt or jersey.
