TAMPA, Fla. – Pine Key, more commonly known as Beer Can Island to local residents, is officially closed to its members and the public, as it was listed for sale on Thursday for $14.2 million dollars.

The island, which has been a popular party spot among Tampa Bay area residents for the better part of the last century, is located in the middle of Tampa Bay in between MacDill Air Force Base and Apollo Beach with pristine views of the Tampa and St. Petersburg skylines.

Just a 10-minute boat ride from Tampa, the island spans nine acres of uplands covered in pine trees, and also offers the rare opportunity for ownership of more than 60 acres of submerged lands surrounding the island with all riparian rights, as well.

“This opportunity is exceedingly rare, as Pine Key is one of the only privately owned islands in Tampa Bay,” said Cole Weaver, majority owner of Pine Key. “We’re grateful for the outpouring of support we have received from the community and our members over the years, but all good things must come to an end at some point, and for us, that time is now.”

Currently unzoned, Pine Key offers a unique opportunity for innovation. With the right vision and willingness to collaborate with Hillsborough County, opportunities for development could be explored and expanded upon.

In Hillsborough, there are currently four other islands with residential zoning. Notably, one spans 2.58 acres with ‘residential 20’ zoning, emphasizing spacious residential possibilities, and another, 1.41 acres, is zoned ‘residential 4,’ showcasing potential for more concentrated yet appealing layouts. These instances provide valuable insights into the diverse residential zoning options already enjoyed within the county, offering precedents for the island’s prospective development pending proper zoning and regulatory considerations.

This offering appeals to a diverse audience, welcoming private property buyers, corporations, and international investors seeking a unique retreat.

While historically recognized for hosting events, Pine Key is equally positioned as an exclusive VIP property, providing a perfect setting for either private sole or corporate ownership. For more information and to explore the opportunities it presents, please visit PineKeyTampaBay.com
