Charity provides 25 new computers to Fort Gordon school

IMG_7238FORT GORDON, Ga. – The Armed Forces Families Foundation, a charity organization helping military families in the southeast U.S., presented Fort Gordon’s Freedom Park School with a check for $14,994 on Wednesday morning.

The majority of the funds donated by AFFF were raised within the Augusta community in conjunction with local Taco Bell restaurants, and has already allowed the school to expand access to new technology within its classrooms. The funds were allocated to cover the recent purchase of 25 new HP ProBook computers, licensing software, hardware support and one LocknCharge computer cart.

Freedom Park School is located on-base at Fort Gordon and has over 700 Pre-K-8th grade students enrolled, with a vast majority of students coming from military families. The new computers supplement the limited number of classroom computers previously available and are allowing students to learn valuable computer skills, work on school projects, homework, standardized testing and other curriculum needs.

AFFF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides 100 percent of the funds raised back to projects to help military families.

Having the proper tools in each classroom makes it easier for both teachers and students, and we know these laptops are being put to good use,” said John Wright, a member of the board at AFFF. “At Armed Forces Families Foundation, 100 percent of donations raised go back to the community where they were raised.”

To date, the Armed Forces Families Foundation has raised and given back more than $1.7 million to benefit military families. Recent projects include:

  • $26,282 to upgrade entertainment systems within the USO Naval Air Station Pensacola
  • $46,000 to install a new playground, accessible to over 300 families stationed on MacDill Airforce Base
  • $55,000 to refresh and renovate the USOs at Nashville International Airport and Fort Campbell
  • $40,000 renovation of the six-lane bowling alley at the Charlotte N.C. VA medical Center
