Music video platform launches to fill decades-old void left by MTV, VH1, BET, CMT

MUSIC CITY – After more than 20 years without a TV platform to watch live music video programming, a new Nashville-based video network called Audidio announced Thursday they have answered the call and are now streaming 16 channels of music video content 24-7-365.

Audidio, pronounced Au-did-ee-yo, like if you mixed audio with video, is a new, 24-7-365, music video platform available on Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Android, iPhone and streaming online at audidio.com.

“It took more than a year of planning, conceptualization, beta-testing, agreement negotiations, partnerships and much more, but we’re excited to finally announce Audidio – the best place to discover new music videos,” said Nik Sharp, founder of Audidio. “Think MTV and VH1 when they were cool. Speaking of which, I heard MTV just celebrated 40 years last month, I think it’s fitting to thank them for 20 years of music, but we’ll take it from here.”

Audidio is clearly on to something very clever. They aren’t just trying something untested, demand for music videos has skyrocketed. In 2018, YouTube announced 1 billion people were using their platform each month to watch music videos, and last November, YouTube’s global head of music, Lyor Cohen, announced that figure had now doubled to 2 billion people each month.

According to brandwatch.com, music videos make up 93 percent of the most-watched videos on YouTube.

“Our slogan is, ‘Audidio – The other hits.’ That’s because there are a multitude of stars out there other than the select few that are constantly rammed down your throat by all of the media outlets,” said Sharp. “Unlike the mainstream media, we are the curators of these stars. There are literally independent artists charting on top 10 Billboard charts each month that aren’t being played on TV or radio and we’re changing that.”

The network’s channels include Acoustic & Chill, Country Music, Pop, Dance WRLD, Latin, The State of Rap, Hip Hop, R&B, Roots Rock Reggae, Pop Punk EMO, Indie, Metal|Hardcore, Alternative, Rock U and Punk Grunge + other oddities. There is also a channel dedicated to showcasing one new performer each month, called New Artist Spotlight.

It’s all part of Sharp’s efforts to expose more people to great music and great artists that aren’t currently getting the airplay they deserve.

“As having been both an independent artist, and a signed artist, I played the game for 20 years. I know both sides of the struggle,” said Sharp. “There is no shortage of super-talented musicians and artists out there, and while record labels are still trying to do things the old-fashioned way, we are showcasing videos by well-known independent artists who have access to millions and millions of followers, who are cross-promoting our platform to showcase their music. It’s really fantastic synergy.”

In addition to promoting independent music artists, the platform also boasts many soon to be well-known hosts and video jockeys. Video jockeys for Audidio include Young Dirty Bastard, the son of Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Nikki Natural from VH1’s reality TV show “Love and Hop-hop Miami,” Country musician and singer-songwriter JD Clark, Franz Arnold, who is reminiscent of Pauly Shore during his MTV years, and several other VJs from around the world.

While the platform currently features 16 channels, the team at Audidio has hinted that they are planning to launch new channels beginning as soon as next week.

Audidio is always free for viewers, and currently free for artists to submit their videos for review. To learn more about Audidio, visit Audidio.com
